A Casablanca Wine Tour from Valparaíso or from Santiago?
Casablanca is 41 km from Valparaíso and 77 km from Santiago. Which start gives you more time at the wineries, more tours to choose from, and an easier day.
If you are based in Santiago, book a day tour from Santiago: almost every Casablanca wine tour leaves from there, with hotel pickup. If you are already staying in Valparaíso or Viña del Mar, the valley is only about 50 minutes away by car, so a short vineyard tour from the coast gives you the same tasting in a morning, but there are far fewer tours to choose from. The town of Casablanca is 77 km from central Santiago and 41 km from Valparaíso, measured along the road.

The short answer, by where you sleep
- Sleeping in Santiago: take a Santiago day tour. Pickup is at your hotel or Airbnb in the centre, Providencia, Las Condes or Vitacura, and you choose between a Valparaíso day with one tasting and a dedicated three- or four-winery day. Both take about ten hours.
- Moving from Santiago to the coast: take a Santiago day tour that ends on the coast. Best Trip Chile’s Valparaíso and Casablanca wine tour offers drop-off at Valparaíso port on request; tell them how many bags you have, or the van cannot carry them.
- Sleeping in Valparaíso or Viña del Mar: book a short tour with a coastal pickup, or hire a driver. Beloved City Tours’ Casablanca vineyard tour collects you at any address in Viña del Mar or Valparaíso, about 50 minutes each way, and spends about 80 minutes at the vineyard, with the cellar, the barrel room and four wines. It takes about three and a half hours, for up to eight people, at $150 a person (checked October 2026). It is a new listing with no reviews yet.

From Santiago: more choice, a longer day
The Santiago tours dominate the market, and that is a buyer’s advantage: you can choose the shape of the day. The combined days (Stampstour, Best Trip Chile, Go2Chile, SANTUR) put Valparaíso’s hills first, with one vineyard stop of about 40 to 45 minutes; Stampstour’s Viña del Mar and Valparaíso day with a tasting costs $60 in current promotion (usually $75) a person. The dedicated winery days (Best Trip Chile’s four vineyards and Tanino, Go2Chile’s four boutique wineries) skip the port and spend about 75 minutes at each estate. Either way you sit in a van for about three hours of the ten, because the valley is over an hour from the capital (checked October 2026).
From Valparaíso: closer, but fewer tours
From the coast the valley is half the drive, which means more of your day in the vineyards and less on Ruta 68. The catch is supply. Most tours sold under “Valparaíso” on the booking sites actually pick up in Santiago: Chile Tours’ Casas del Bosque day, for example, collects in Providencia. Read the pickup line on the listing before you book. Your options on the coast are:
- A short tour with coastal pickup, as above, for a morning or an afternoon at one estate.
- A driver-guide. The company trading as Valparaíso Wine Tours, based in Valparaíso, sells a round-trip wine bus and private routes by enquiry on its own website. Our page on the company sets out its prices and booking terms.
- A taxi between two estates. Casas del Bosque, at the western end of the valley, is the closest of the big names to the coast. Book the tasting first; weekends are booked by email.
Which is better, Santiago or Valparaíso?
As a base for a wine day, Santiago, because of the choice of tours. As a place to spend the night before or after, Valparaíso and Viña del Mar are the more memorable: the hills, the funiculars and the views over the bay are the point of the trip for many visitors, and in summer the coast is cooler than the capital. Plenty of travellers do both: a wine day from Santiago with a drop-off on the coast, two nights in Valparaíso, and the bus back. The where-to-stay guide compares the hills with Viña del Mar.
Getting between the two without a tour
There is no passenger train between Santiago and Valparaíso. Turbus, Pullman and Condor run frequent buses, most from Terminal Pajaritos in Santiago, and the trip takes about an hour and a half in normal traffic. The buses pass the town of Casablanca, but the wineries are out along the highway and its side roads, so you would still need a taxi from town.
